WVC maintains an active event schedule throughout the year. The following are some examples of the things we do:
A combination road trip and annual dinner party to celebrate the beginning of a new year.
Do-It-Yourself Technical Sessions
Our most popular event series, these are presented in partnership with local Volvo dealers in their service departments. As the name implies, the sponsor opens their garage to us, and we learn how to fix our own cars.
Volvo cars are known for their durability, and we demonstrate it with our group road trips. We've gone to out-of-town events like Volvo owner meets, car shows and regional food festivals.
Membership has its benefits
Such as receiving discounts on parts and service from the dealers and independent shops who sponsor us.
Got an idea for an event, or know of something going on which might be fun for us all? Send an e-mail in the 'Contact Us' section and tell us about it. If you're able to host the event, that's even better. Tell us about it, and if it looks good, we'll add it to the Meetup calendar.
Founded in 1975, the Washington Volvo Club (WVC) is the continuation of a club begun in 1958 for the care and feeding of Volvos of all years and styles. In 1978, the Washington Volvo Club was chosen to participate in a print and TV advertisement for Volvo Cars (that advert is to the right of this text). After we did that, everything changed, and we ceased being a purely local Club. We went from fifty members to hundreds of members, from Sweden to Malaysia, from Maine to California, and in various places in between!
We maintain a full schedule of events throughout the year, from brunches and picnics, to car show adventures, to Do-It-Yourself technical sessions where we learn to fix our own cars. We welcome owners of all Volvo models and years, old and new. We buy, drive and love old Volvos, and we buy, drive and love new Volvos. So if you're a Volvo owner and you love your Volvo, then you've come to the right place.
The text of the print ad:
HAPPINESS LOVES COMPANY.
In an age when many car owners are less than ecstatic, statistics show that 9 out of 10 new Volvo owners are happy.
In the case of this particular group from Washington, DC, the statistic is 10 out of 10. These people are so happy with their Volvos they've formed a club. They have picnics, car rallies and regular monthly meetings. They swap Volvo stories and tell Chevy jokes. They compare notes on how dependable their Volvos are. (Some of these cars have gone hundreds of thousands of miles.) They even put out a club newsletter and pay dues. All because they love the cars they own.
If you've never felt this kind of affection for a car you've owned, buy a Volvo.
You may never join a Volvo fan club. But the odds are you'll become a Volvo fan.

What would a car celebration be without a parade?

1978 Volvo TV Ad
In 1978, Volvo Cars of North America asked us to participate in a TV and print advertisement for them. Of course, we were happy to do so. Now, after 37 years, the ad has been resurrected from the vaults, digitally transferred, and will be available here for your viewing pleasure.
